Strawberry Moon 🌕

6/9 - Rocks, Father's Day, and Friday the 13th

Good Morning, Golden! Father’s Day is this Sunday, so now’s your chance to earn favorite-child status. Plan ahead and treat Dad to one of the many events happening around town this week—or better yet, snag tickets to something fun later this summer. (Future you will thank you.)

Also worth noting: this Wednesday brings a full moon! 🌕 Despite the name, it won’t be strawberry-colored—but it does mark the traditional start of strawberry harvest season. Sweet, right?

Check out the full lineup of events below—there’s a lot going on, and plenty worth penciling in.

✨ What’s New in Golden

Summer Music Series by the Creek 🎵

Golden has no shortage of music on the weekends, but now there’s a new midweek option for ya. Clock out then rock out by the river on Wednesday evenings on The Golden Hotel’s creekside courtyard! The event is free and family friendly, with food and drink specials. It’s a great way to enjoy the best of Golden—local brews, music, and community—during the summer.

New Art Alert 🎨

I saw these interesting benches the other day, and I did a double take. But alas, my eyes did not deceive me the other 517 times I’d been down this trail. The City of Golden announced new art dropped in the last two weeks along Clear Creek Trail west of 6th Avenue. It’s called “Follies Benches” by artist Eric Lynn.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

🦖 Around Golden: First Friday at Mine’s Museum

Sometimes inertia wins at the end of a long week—I fall into routines, go to the same spots, see the same people. But every now and then, I check what’s happening around town and stumble into something unexpectedly delightful. Case in point: a double date at Mines Museum’s First Friday event. 💎

This free, family-friendly evening features live music, adult beverages, and a gift shop I’m already planning to revisit for birthday and holiday gifts. While the crowd was still catching on, the event itself totally wowed me. It reminded me just how incredible our local museum is—right here in Golden’s backyard.

Did you know Mines Museum is home to one of Colorado’s two Goodwill moon rocks from the Apollo 17 mission? 🪨 From dino bones to geological oddities that had me repeatedly asking “how did this even form?!”—there’s plenty to marvel at for a solid couple of hours. And then still want to return for more.

THANKS!

Thanks for reading The Golden Goose today. If you found something interesting, please share it with a birder, geologist, or that one friend who still has a pet rock.

Answer: C. Yule Marble. Aquamarine is the state’s gem, and Rhodochrosite is the state’s mineral. Learned this at the First Friday at Mine’s Museum.
