๐ Around Golden: Boettcher Mansion

Perched atop Lookout Mountain, the Boettcher Mansion was built in 1917 as a private retreat for industrialist Charles Boettcher. Designed by Denver architects Fisher & Fisher, it was still being called โTudorโ at the time, but the style has since been reclassified more accurately as โArts and Craftsโ (side note: just learned this is a style and now itโs my mission to live in an Arts and Crafts ๐จ house!).
Originally named Lorraine Lodge, it was constructed using native stone and timber to blend seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Over the years, it became a hub for social gatherings and sporting events, even hosting royalty such as the Queen of Romania. After Charles Boettcherโs passing in 1948, the mansion remained a family residence until his granddaughter, Charline Humphreys Breeden, donated the 110-acre estate to Jefferson County upon her death in 1972.
Since opening to the public in 1975 as a conference and nature center, the mansion has evolved into one of Jefferson Countyโs most sought-after event venues. Today, the Boettcher Mansion continues to serve as a premier location for special events while sharing its scenic surroundings with the adjacent Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve.
Boettcher Mansion offers self-guided History Tours during its open hours, which are Mondays-Thursday between 8 am - 4 pm, but call ahead to ensure availability as they host 300 private events a year.
P.S. If you go, let me know if there are ghosts. ๐ป
