New School Year, New Housing 🎒

8/4 - The Village at Mines Park, Fine Arts Festival, & North Ford Survey

Good Morning, Golden! If the coffee lines seem longer and your street suddenly has six more Subarus parked on it—don’t worry, it’s not a glitch in the Matrix. Mines students are beginning to move back in, and some lucky ones are unpacking in the brand-new Village at Mines Park. (Yes, it’s fancy. Yes, it has a café. No, you can’t live there. I already asked.)

This week’s issue is bursting with local goodness: art festivals, baby goats, Yappy Hours, pelvic floor health, and a full moon hike. Let’s get into it!

In today’s issue:

  • 🎒New School Year, New Housing

  • 🎨 Golden Fine Arts Festival

  •  📌 Bulletin Board

  • 📆 Events This Week & Upcoming

🎒New School Year, New Housing

Students started moving into the new Mines Park apartment buildings on August 1. The five four-story buildings located West of U.S. 6 off 19th street have been under construction for two years. In total, The Village at Mines Park has 1,058 beds and includes Ore Cart stops, a café, a fitness center, shared laundry facilities, gathering areas and study nooks.

If you’re also thinking “only two years to build?!”, don’t worry…I did a little (ore)digging…

The construction company Milender White (MW) used prefabricated CLT construction on this project. “The CLT building system uses large-scale, prefabricated, solid-engineered wood panels that offer superior acoustic, fire, seismic and thermal performance. It has a strength-to-weight ratio comparable to concrete despite being 5X lighter.” MW claims this approach “supports an acceleration of schedule.” To learn more, check out the company’s article, The Power of Prefabricated CLT Construction: Mines Park Village.

Also important to note, Scully’s Coffee ☕️ will be opening at The Village at Mines Park. It’s the coffee camper’s first brick-and-mortar shop! Opening date is TBD.

As for when school starts, here are the start dates for a few schools:

  • August 19 - Mitchell Elementary; Bell Middle School

  • August 20 - Golden High School

  • August 25 - Colorado School of Mines
