Good morning, Golden! Man (…Goose?), do I love this community!

One day I’m crying on the curb because I accidentally left a garbage bag in the car for two scorching-hot weeks only to discover maggots and the world’s most effective way to make a car smell like death and vinegar. (Admittedly, the hot trash was just the final straw. Also, I hope my husband doesn’t read the newsletter this week because I never told him about the maggots. 😆)

Then the next day, I received the most gracious DM from a Goose reader. 😭

Excuse me while I go cry again.

Last week, that reader and I met for coffee. And after I shared my recent tubing fiasco, another reader invited me to a tubing event she was hosting with friends.

And it hit me: one of my favorite things about The Golden Goose has become the people on the other side of it. So I want you to meet them too!

I’m introducing a new semi-regular segment called “Meet the Flock” — a chance to get to know a fellow Goose reader, hear what they love about Golden, find out what’s currently got them excited, and maybe discover a local business, event, or hidden gem along the way.

Because apparently this newsletter is slowly becoming a very elaborate scheme to make us all friends. Sorry, not sorry. 😈

Students moved back into campus housing over the weekend to start their academic year, and I’m sure you’ve been equally curious about the newest building interiors. Who also loves an apartment tour? 🙋‍♀️

The Colorado School of Mines posted a quick tour of the newest Sophomore housing on 19th, Lookout Apartments, on Instagram a couple of weeks ago.

The residence hall has 800 beds and features an experimental pedestrian crossing on 19th street in front of the building.

On Friday, expect to see students carrying carrying their 10-pound rock up Mt. Zion to the M before classes begin Monday, August 24th.

“A Golden Opportunity” - The name of a coworker’s and my two page business plan convincing our Canadian company to open an office in Golden. The first page was the cover page. The office has been here 14 years now.
What would your ideal Saturday in Golden include?

Go on a Chimpex Loop run, followed by the Golden Diner, taking our dog Frankie to swim in the river, and afternoon beers at Cannonball.
What’s one Golden event, place, or experience you think more people should know about?

The orb hunt, the candlelight walk, & the bike cruise
What are you working on / excited about / shamelessly plugging right now?

Renovating a historic barn that will be my future workshop.

Rec Center Pool & Sauna Closed Aug 17-28 - The pool and sauna are closed for maintenance. Please direct all cannonballs and aggressive sweating elsewhere.

Swim Lesson Registration Opens Today, Aug 17 - Lessons are open for the month of September. The Rec Center may need to schedule more maintenance after the lil ones pee in the pool. You know you’re thinking it too.

Voluntary Afternoon Fishing Closure in Effect in Golden - ”Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is requesting anglers avoid fishing certain sections of rivers and streams, including the section of Clear Creek between the Tunnel 1 Trailhead and Vanover Park in Golden, due to low stream flows and high water temperatures. The voluntary closure is in effect between noon and midnight. The voluntary closure will remain in effect until conditions improve.”
