Good morning, Golden! Happy Earth Day (4/22), happy 4/20…whatever it is your celebrate, dear readers. Take this as your gentle reminder to get outside and smell the succulents, specifically at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds where the Colorado Cactus & Succulent Society Show and Sale is taking place this weekend. There you can get advice from “passionate plant people”…though rumor has it, some registrants can be a bit prickly. 🌵
Be sure to take note of what’s coming up as some events require registration. I’m doing my best to get things on your radar early so you can plan accordingly. With that, let’s get to it!

PLAN AHEAD: FREE Admission Day (5/7) at Colorado Railroad Museum - “Due to the growing popularity of SCFD Free Days at the Colorado Railroad Museum, all tickets for these dates must be reserved online in advance.”
PLAN AHEAD: Extra Yard Waste Collection Pickup (5/4-5/8) - “Once in the spring and once in the fall for residents who participate in the Pay-As-You-Throw waste collection program….Material may be placed in your organics cart, bundled, or in certified compostable bags available for purchase at any home improvement store.”
BGOLDN needs your egg cartons! - Drop off at their food pantry (17455 W 16th Ave); drop off Tuesday through Friday (times vary).
Discounted summer passes to The Splash at Fossil Trace - They go on sale May 4. The season kicks off on Saturday, May 23! “From thrilling water slides and a zero-depth entry leisure pool to spray features, an eight-lane, 25-meter lap pool, and a diving board, the Splash is the perfect place to beat the Colorado heat and make summer memories.”
Reminders:
Take the Golden Tourism Survey to for chance to win $150 - Residents, businesses, and visitors' opinions are all requested and welcomed. The survey is anonymous (unless you provide contact information for prize entry), and should take about five minutes. The survey will be open until April 22.
Sign up for the SOAR 5K Run on 4/25 - Supporting the Welchester PTA, this event has a Kids Activity Village: a free bounce house, ambulance tour, yard games, and more.
SLASH Calendar Released - Sustainable Lands and Safer Homes (SLASH) runs a facility in Golden, the Tincup Ridge Slash Yard (101 Rooney Road) where residents can take debris from down trees, brush, and other natural matter. Removing this material form your yard helps mitigate wildfire. Dropoff dates are Fridays & Saturday, May - October.
Historic Preservation Design Guidelines Workshop on 4/21 - “Join City staff and consultants at the Golden Community Center to review the newly revised Historic Preservation Design Guidelines and provide your feedback to guide the design of Golden's Historic buildings.”
